Reading is one of the fundamentals ways to become a successful modern solo.

I’ve gained so many ideas and learned to change my mindset from reading. I can usually get through a book a month and it’s an important part of my business development.

Here are some of my favorite books that I recommend for the first quarter of 2018:

Profit First: Transform Your Business from a Cash-Eating Monster to a Money-Making Machine by Mike Michalowicz

Profit first will change the way you look at accounting in your law practice. Instead of profit being whatever is left over after expenses, the author shows you how to take out profit first and make your expenses fit into what it left.

I know many lawyers who swear by this system and have had great success using this system and who swear by it. Although I don’t follow the system exactly as it is laid out in the book, I did take away many useful tips.

The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg (Author)

One of the big lessons of 2017 for me was learning the power of habit and routine and this book really helped me see the light. Though it came out in 2014, it will still make an impact on your law practice today.

The biggest takeaway for me was to analyze my bad habits, determine the why behind them, and replace them with good habits.

High Performance Habits: How Extraordinary People Become That Way by Brendon Burchard

This book, while not groundbreaking, way very motivational. The premise is that there are six habits to master in order to be successful. The author gives good examples and like The Power of Habit, shows you how habits and routines can have a huge impact on your life.

Any books that should be added to the list? Drop them in the comments!
