How To Make Your Facebook Page More Interesting

student-849825_1920Facebook can be a really tricky platform for lawyers, but this guide will help make your Facebook page more interesting. Most law firm Facebook pages look alike: logo, boring stock photos and some old  blog posts and firm updates. But with consistent posting and customization, you page will stand out in a sea of boring.

Why An Interesting Facebook Page Matters

If you don’t have a page already, it’s time to get one. With 1.59 billion users worldwide, Facebook has more users than Twitter and Instagram combined.  Facebook users spend an average of 55 minutes a day on the site. You are doing your business a huge disservice if you don’t have an account. Many people give up on Facebook because their page does not get a ton of likes. While getting people to follow your page is great, it’s not the most important thing.  The most important reason to make your Facebook page more interesting is to build credibility. When a potential client hears about you the first thing they will do plug your name into google. After looking at your website, they will look at your Facebook page….and judge you. So even if you don’t have a lot of followers, you’ll have many people looking. Another great reason to make your Facebook page more interesting is if you plan to use Facebook ads. Facebook ads are an affordable way to advertise to a targeted group of people, and many solos are jumping on the bandwagon. In order to create an ad you must have a business page. And even if your ad links back to your website, potential customers will also look at your page to determine if you are legit. If you are going to have a page, you should put some effort into making it interesting.

How To Make Your Facebook Page More Interesting

Profile Picture

If you are a solo attorney, your profile picture should be you and not your logo. You are your brand so your image should be front and center.  Studies have shown that people connect to real people and when paying for a service customers want to see who they will be hiring.  Your profile is more important than you think, so make sure it’s really good.

Elements of of a good profile photo:

Clearly shows your face. A professional headshot is better than a selfie. Is recent. People expect you to look like your photo when you meet. Is not pixelated or blurry. Is the same across ALL social media platforms.

Cover Photo

Your cover photo is the perfect opportunity to showcase your brand. You can use it to promote specials, events, holidays, or just an attractive photo that is relevant to your business. The key is to keep the cover relevant to your audience and on brand. Canva or PicMonkey are free tools that you can use to jazz up your cover. The templates are already sized to fit Facebook specifications.

Here are some examples of my cover photo:

Take Advantage of Your Call To Action Button

The call-to-action button is located on your cover photo, and is a convenient way to get your audience to take certain actions. To change your call to action, simply click on it.

You can choose from 7 calls-to-action:

  1. Book Now
  2. Call Now
  3. Contact Us
  4. Send Message
  5. Use App
  6. Play Game
  7. Shop Now
  8. Sign Up
  9. Watch Video
  10. Send email
  11. Learn More

Try different CTA’s and measure the results by reviewing your analytics. I personally get the most clicks from the  Learn More CTA, which links to my website’s about page. But if I’m having a workshop or event, I use my cover photo to promote and change my CTA to Sign Up.

Use Branded Images

In addition to just sharing articles and blog post, create and share branded images. You can share tips, quotes, or funny memes related to your practice area. Here are some examples I’ve used on my page:1 2 3Facebook is all about the images, so having unique content that followers can’t find anywhere else will make your Facebook page more interesting.

Share Relevant Content From Others

Sharing relevant content from other can also make your page more interesting. Articles, quotes, and especially videos that would be useful to your audience are perfect to share when you are unable to share branded content.  Need help with your Facebook page, or have a page that will inspire other solos?
