Blogging is the foundation of content marketing and if you don’t have one you are missing out on a great marketing opportunity.
For someone who has never started a blog before, the process can seem intimidating. But with this guide you can have a professional blog set up in about 15 minutes.
This guide is focused on creating a self hosted WordPress site using BlueHost. You can easily set up a WordPress.com site but you won’t have the flexibility of plugins that are available by self hosting.
STEP 1: PURCHASE HOSTING PLAN FROM BLUEHOST
Bluehost is my host of choice because it is reliable, reasonably priced and easy to use.
Go to the bluehost and click get started. Select your plan. I use the plus plan because I have more than one website and I don’t want limits on storage.
STEP 2: CHOOSE YOUR DOMAIN NAME
You get one free domain with your hosting package or you can use one you already own.
Make sure you domain name is not too long, is easy to remember, and it coordinate with your brand.
STEP 3: INSTALL WORDPRESS
Once you get your login information, from the hosting cPanel click on website.
Then click to install WordPress. Once the installation is complete you will receive login information for your WordPress site.
STEP 4: CHOOSE A THEME
Your site will come with the TWENTY SIXTEEN theme automatically installed. You can also browse free themes on the WordPress themes directory. Switching themes only takes a click so I suggest starting with a free theme first while you get used to using WordPress so you can determine what you really need before investing in something more expensive.
STEP 5: INSTALL PLUGINS
Plugins are like little apps you can use to make your blog better. You can find millions of free plugins on the WordPress Plugin Directory. In a later post in this series, I will share a list of the most helpful plugins for your law firm blog.
With these basic steps you can get your law blog set up in less than 15 minutes.
